Our Unit is nestled in the Lehigh
Valley at the foot of the Blue Mountains. Ridge & Valley Unit was
organized April 2001. We had a terrific turnout of interested people.
THE MORNING CALL published a full-page article on the new unit. Our
original meeting location was held at a local arboretum, but we had
already outgrown the space.
Our steering committee was
approached be a member of the
Governor Wolf Historical Society.
They had plenty of room and offered us a meeting place. Our members
were informed of the change and in May we held our first meeting. As
of December 2004 we have 34 members. Our average monthly attendance
is 26-28 people. We hold meetings every month on the second
Wednesday.
Our calendar
Several of our members have made
presentations on different herbal topics to garden clubs, local herb
units, and the general public.
Our Garden committee is working on plans for a Pleasure and Herb Garden
that will reflect the 1785-1795 time period of the
Governor Wolf Historical Society
property. Our Horticulture group has been
researching and studying applicable trees, shrubs, roses, perennials, and
herbs of the proper time period for the garden. Recently a culinary
study group was formed.
